CENTRIA's Major Products are Cradle to Cradle Certified
CENTRIA's Versawall insulated metal composite panel is one of the first building envelope products to receive Cradle to Cradle certification.
The certification process, administered by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) evaluates a product's ingredients - and its complete formulation for human and environmental health impacts throughout its lifecycle ? as well as its potential for being truly recycled or safely composted.
All major components of Versawall and the processes used to manufacture it pass the rigid guidelines established for Silver C to C certification.
Certification of a finished product requires the evaluation of energy-use quantity and quality (i.e., relative proportion of renewable energy), water-use quantity, water-effluent quality, and workplace ethics associated with manufacturing.
Instead of designing a cradle-to-grave product to be dumped in landfills at the end of its 'life,' the MBDC certification program focuses on products for cradle-to-cradle cycles, whose materials are perpetually circulated in closed loops. Maintaining materials in closed loops maximizes material value without damaging ecosystems.
The Cradle to Cradle certification program was developed by internationally recognized architect/designer William McDonough and German chemist Michael Braungart to encourage industries worldwide to adopt design principles which imitate the design patterns of nature, and create new products to benefit human health and the environment.
Cradle to Cradle certified products now earn LEED Innovation in Design credits. CENTRIA's Cradle to Cradle products currently include: EcoScreen? Perforated Screenwall panels, Formawall® Dimension Series® and Versawall® industrial foam-insulated wall systems.
Innovation in Design points are awarded to LEED projects that develop new solutions, employ new technologies, educate, or realize exemplary performance in another area. The USGBC pioneered the achievement of innovation points for using the criteria of the Cradle to Cradle program during the certification of its own new LEED Platinum headquarters in Washington, DC. While reviewing USGBC's submission, the Materials & Resources Technical Advisory Group noted that future projects could also pursue points for using other existing, established product certification programs.
